The DOES HIV LOOK LIKE ME? lecture is presented by speakers who are young people living with HIV or AIDS.  The lecture includes an informative HIV and AIDS 101, the speakers sharing their story of being diagnosed and living with the disease and they always leave time for questions and answers.  The speakers offer a variety of diverse stories with information and a personal connection to young people by sharing their unique perspective and the realities of their own life of living, not dying, with the disease.  The DOES HIV LOOK LIKE ME? lecture is distributed by Hope’s Voice to thousands of college and university campuses in the United States.

The DOES HIV LOOK LIKE ME? lecture is encouraging young people to know their status, end stigma and discrimination against those living with the disease and share what they learn with someone they know — all without using fear.

When Hope’s Voice International first contacted country partners in Swaziland, the partners were not convinced that young people would sign up as Ambassadors, despite the fact that 26% of the population is infected with HIV. However, once the word spread that this campaign would portray young people as they wanted to been seen and heard, young people quickly jumped at the chance. In fact, so many Ambassadors (and their partners and friends) showed up that some had to be turned away! This experience demonstrates so clearly the appeal of a campaign that empowers young people. Even though one quarter of the entire population between the ages of 15-49 is living with HIV, stigma and discrimination persists. Young people are eager for outlets to define their own experience and to be actively involved in re-defining the present and shaping the future.

The DOES HIV LOOK LIKE ME? Campaign portrays young people in an empowering and positive light and allows young people to define their experience of LIVING with the virus. In a country where the prevalence rate is approximately 18%, this was particularly important. It is for this reason 26 young South Africans jumped at the chance to participate in the DOES HIV LOOK LIKE ME? South Africa campaign. The South Africa Ambassadors share stories of hopes and dreams, triumphs and challenges. They discuss gender-based violence and rape, misconceptions and denial, and the common goal of redefining the virus that has affected an entire generation.

The FACES OF WAR lecture series is unique because it provides a personal and candid look at how war affects our generation.  The FACES OF WAR speakers are soldiers or loved ones of soldiers who have served and returned from war.  The speakers’ powerful lecture provides the opportunity for the audience to understand the realities of war from the perspective of their peers.  The FACES OF WAR lecture includes the speaker sharing his or her story and the impact the war has had on their life.  The lecture includes an informative conversation on the facts and figures pertaining to specific issues within the war.  The lecture always leaves time for questions and answers creating a dialogue with the students.  The FACES OF WARlecture is providing valuable and meaningful information and sharing the emotional and eye-opening realities of their peers who have bravely served our country.  TheFACES OF WAR lecture is distributed by Hope’s Voice to thousands of college and university campuses in the United States.

The FACES OF WAR lecture and campaign is encouraging young people, regardless of their political views, to put aside their differences and come together to be educated and inspired.
